OUT OF SEASON ?

These were the only things worth pointing the camera at on Friday's short walk .I checked in my "I SPY " book of British wildlife on the butterfly to find that it could be a PEACOCK.  The book said the adults fly in July, but this is still March....But then do butterflies read books ?

DOWN BY THE RIVER SEVERN

This a view looking up the river Severn towards Gatcombe. Its said that Sir Francis Drake stayed at Gatcombe (a small port ) while looking for Oak tree's for boat building

On my way back from the river i passed these two fine beasts, sorry about the bar in the picture, its funny how you don't notice things like this when you take the photo. Ah well !!

A MORNING WALK WITH NOT MUCH TO SHOW FOR IT

Not a lot about this morning ,i saw a lot of Greenfinch last night at the same spot as the above photo, but they were not about today. But after taking the above pic,a noise to my left turned out to be a boar (pic3) who shot off at high speed.  The middle pic is of Cannop Pond. I hope the next walk is more productive, but it was a nice walk all the same.

THE THINGS YOU COME ACROSS WHEN YOU GO FOR A WALK

Walking down the Lydney canal, i came upon the dummies on the ground. They were part of a 3  day exercise in case Lydney gets flooded due to flash floods and a high tide in the River Severn, it could happen in the next 100 years.

A view down Lydney Harbour. and the bottom photo is a view down the River Severn towards the Severn Bridges when the tide is out.

GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER & FRIEND.

Uptill to day, i had not been close to a wood pecker to take an image. Today driving along Mosleygreen ,i saw a motor biker down off the road ( he had missed the bend) I went back ,found he was all right and helped him get his bike back up on the road, and he went on his way, none the worse for his mishap.  As i got to the forest gate to start my walk ,there was the above woodpecker......Moral to the story, one good turn deserve,s another

FEMALE MALLARD AT CANNOP POND

This photo was taken 2 weeks ago at Cannop top pond, i hope i am correct in saying its a female Mallard
My wife has told me that the 2 new bird box's that i built and put up in our garden, have both been visited by Blue tits . Fingers crossed, they will soon be nesting in them. I cant wait, watching them last year going in and out was a joy to watch.....simple pleasures are the best.

WORGREEN LAKE ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON.

I can remember when this place was an "Open Cast" site, just acre's of mud and small coal dust.
That must have been 30years ago..But a lot of good has come out of it,and now it's a great place for wildlife.
Sorry that it's not a larger photo,i need a longer lens. I think the birds are grey herons? They seemed  to be doing a display of sorts.

THEY LOVE TO FEED

Feeding between the showers at Speech House,i hope it's warmer and dryer tomorrow when i go to Minchinhampton common to play golf.
